Also included is a directory of independent housing options for the elderly and adults with disabilities in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties. This list includes a wide variety of options, of senior housing, assisted living facilities and nursing homes to assist you with your housing needs. Some facilities and apartments may have waiting lists, please contact the individual properties for the most current information.
Independent Living – Some seniors desire to remain in their own homes. To enhance safe and accessible home living, many community and in-home services are available in southwest Michigan, including minor home repair, home delivered meals, safety evaluations and more. Assisted Living – Facilities that are designed to offer supportive services that maintain maximum privacy, freedom, and independence fall in this category. Assisted living facilities can provide, as needed, personal assistance ranging from help with bathing, to medication management, housekeeping, and overall monitoring.
Adult Foster Care Homes - Residential settings that provide 24-hour personal care, protection, and supervision for individuals who are developmentally disabled, mentally ill, physically handicapped or aged who cannot live alone but who do not need continuous nursing care.
Nursing Homes – For individuals with significant health problems, a nursing home may be the best option. Nursing home support services include bathing, dressing, medication management, meal assistance, housekeeping, activities, and more. Many homes also have special programs for those individuals who have dementia.

Adult Foster Care homes are privately owned residential homes that offer room and board, supervision, personal care and protection to adults who need assistance, but do not need continuous nursing care.
Assisted Living Facilities are for individuals who have some difficulty taking care of themselves but do not need nursing home level of care. These facilities are not required to be licensed in the state of Michigan, although most are licensed as Adult Foster Care or Homes for the Aged.
