Seniors have a lifetime of experience to share, and the desire to make a real difference in their world. They’ve managed households, been business owners and nurses, farmers and salespeople, artists and executives.
The Area Agency on Aging offers seniors many and varied opportunities to put their unique talents, experience, and expertise to work in their communities, and enrich their own lives in the process.
Senior Volunteer Programs
Through Senior Volunteer Programs, elders receive training, staff support and opportunities to use their talents through service to their communities.
Foster Grandparent Program: Seniors over age 55 who meet income eligibility requirements* serve 15 - 20 hours each week in community sites such as schools, early childhood centers, emergency shelters, migrant programs and detention centers providing care for children in need of one-on-one attention.
Senior Companion Program: Seniors over age 55 who meet income eligibility requirements* serve 15 - 20 hours each week in private homes, assisted living centers and adult day care facilities providing friendship and assistance to other seniors.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren and Relatives as Parents Program: Grandparents and caregivers serve their communities by caring for relative children when their parents are unable to do so. The program provides support through a quarterly informational newsletter.
